The Advantages and Disadvantages of Sex Education for Children
Nowadays, many parents are hesitant
to provide sex
education to their children in
their early age or not. There have been several cases that involved the children that
associated with sex, such as there was a kid who abuse his friend because he
unknowingly did not know what sex is. In
the U.S., more than 750,000 girls ages 15-19 become pregnant every year. More
than 80 percent of these are unintended pregnancies.
There
are several advantages of giving a sex education to the children in their young
age. First, Children will be able to learn things
about their own bodies. Many children are curious about their own bodies. They are trying on roles and behaviours and may be
mimicking adults as they play doctor, marriage or catch and kiss. This
combination of natural curiosity and role-playing sometimes leads to childhood
sex play. It may lead to touching, and children discover that this type of
touching feels good. In other words, this type of play is expected and
harmless. At this age it is important however, to teach children that their
bodies belong to them and that no one has the right to touch them without permission.
By
giving sex education they will know more about human reproduction system,
sexually transmitted diseases, birth contraceptives and pregnancy prevention
techniques.
Second, by giving sex education they are able
to communicate, listen, negotiate with others, ask for and identify sources of
help and advice when it comes to sexual relationships. In the future, children
need to communicate their problem with the other, finding sources and sometime
they give advice to the others, so they are not feel awkward when there is a
problem about sex.
The Last, sex education
is a must, to prevent sexual problem in their adulthood. In the future, if they
do not know about sex problem and nobody teach them, if there is a problem they
will feel awkward by themselves and they do something wrong.
On the other hand,
some people judge that sex education is too early for their young age. Many
children will not understand what are they learn because they are not in age
that have the problems. Many people, religions and customs oppose sex education
because sex is inappropriate things that they should not discuss it with their
children. Religions and customs have their own opinion about sex, they said
that it is taboo things to talk sex with their children. It
would be fatal
